Biography[]

Scary Godmother, Halloween Spooktakular[]

Hannah Marie is first seen staring out of her living room window anxiously surrounded by interior Halloween decorations exhibiting a fear of the dark, worried that her cousin Jimmy hasn't shown up with his friends yet, as it was the first night she was to go trick or treating, not with her parents. Her parents assure her everything will be alright and then they give her a pink flashlight telling her monsters can't stand them, and soon after, Jimmy and his friends arrive to take her trick or treating. But before heading off, her mother tells her not to worry, cause scary godmother will protect her, before telling Jimmy to have her back by 8:00.

Struggling to keep up due to her small body, Hannah Marie and friends eventually begin trick or treating down the neighbourhood. Jimmy, being a miscreant, not having to be enjoyed the idea of taking Hannah along from the start, he comes up with the idea of terrifying her so much that she would want to go home on her own. Leading Hannah far from the original route, they stop at an old house for sale, calling it the "spook house". After some talking, they get Hannah to go into the spooky house and abandon her, causing her to cry as she believed they had been eaten by the 'monsters'. Hearing her cries, a witchy lady befittingly called 'Scary Godmother' arrives and comforts her. After hearing about Hannah's fear of monsters, she laughs and takes the young girl to the Fright Side, wherein she introduces her to her friends, Skully Pettibone and Bug-a-boo (In the film they introduce a werewolf and the vampires).

After hearing how the older kids are afraid of being punished for their mean behaviour, the monsters and Hannah each conspire to scare the pants out of the older kids as payback. Once the plan's played out, Hannah "saves" the older kids and then they make their way out of the house. In grateful appreciation of Hannah's theatrics, they load her up with candy and the first book ends with Hannah irresponsibly leaving her dog to consume fatal amounts of chocolate.

Scary Godmother, The Revenge of Jimmy[]

Book[]

Hannah is seen on the other side of town from Jimmy, excitedly placing Halloween decorations in his room, playfully scolding her dog, Betty, as she pulls her costume away from her. Changed by her experience from last Halloween, Hannah is no longer scared of the dark or anything scary in the night, and Halloween has now become her favourite holiday. As she talks to Betty, she recalls seeing floats being made for her first ever Halloween Parade (Dubbed 'The Big Halloween Parade') in town, cheerfully rambling about the events that would transpire during the parade, including the costume contest.

During the events leading up to Halloween, Hannah witnesses things going wrong left and right and, with her quick thinking and creativity, she manages to turn things around and convinces the rest of the town kids that Halloween isn't ruined but instead better with the additions Jimmy had added, inadvertedly angering her cousin in the process.

When Halloween finally arrives, Hannah has a fun time during the parade, being able to ride alongside Sacry Godmother and her friends and cheering for Jimmy when he manages to win 'Best Costume'. In the end, Hannah is seen taking a pumpkin basket from Scary Godmother's stand.

Movie[]

Similar to the book, Hannah is seen in her room decorating for Halloween, however this time, she heads over to the Fright Side to ask for extra decorations from Scary Godmother. While there, she realizes she forgot to call Jimmy and phones him using Scary Godmother's phone, inviting him to pick pumpkins along with Katier, Daryl, and Bert. Although saddened at her cousin's request, she gets comforted by Scary Godmother and later gets over it once Orson and his family come by to ask Scary Godmother if she needed anything before getting groceries.

Throughout the film, Hannah is faced with many issues leading up to Halloween, from the pumpkins being smashed once she arrives with her (human) friends to the candy and costumes being labelled 'poisonous' and 'flammable' respectively. Despite her friends' discouraged outlook on the situation, Hannah tries to think more positively and uses her quick thinking and creativity to ensure they still have a good Halloween, lifting their spirit and unintentionally saving the Fright Side from disappearing, much to Jimmy's dismay and Scary Godmother's delight.

By the end of the film, Hannah is seen in the Fright Side, enjoying Scary Godmother's party and is shocked when he sees Jimmy in the realm too. After Jimmy wins 'best costume', she is thrilled and encourages him to smash the pumpkin prize open. When Jimmy offers that he and Hannah do it, the girl happily obliges and they both share candy as Hannah comments how happy she is that Jimmy came to the party, with Jimmy telling her how much Halloween rules.

Relationships[]

Scary Godmother[]

Although having a tense first meeting, both of them have grown to become friends, with Scary Godmother helping her in many of her exploits. During the end of the first film, Hannah is given a key to visit the frightside anytime she wants.

Jimmy[]

Jimmy is Hannah's cousin, and despite their stark differences, Hannah is shown to deeply care for Jimmy, refusing to let the 'Monster in the Lake' attack him[1].

Orson[]

Orson is one of Hannah's many monster friends from the frightside. Due to their similarities, they've found themselves becoming best friends, with Hannah making a card for him on Valentine's Day[2].

Although not always present, Bug-a-Boo makes sure to check up on Hannah and often plays with her and Orson when he's not working. Out of all the monsters, he is the only one aside from Scary Godmother and Orson to visit her in the human world, rather than the other way around.
